What's the best smartphone deal around today? Signs kind of point
towards the Nexus 5, with its top-end specs and relatively affordable
price. Well, that could be seriously challenged soon with the Motorola
Moto G, which combines somewhat impressive specs, sleek design, and a
surprisingly low price point.
Loved the Moto X's design? Then you'll love this one, which appears
to have coopted the styling of the Google subsidiary's flagship
smartphone. Even better, it embraces the same love for color as the
Moto X, with 19 customization options that include interchangeable
shells, flip shells and grip shells.
Details of the Motorola Moto G include a 4.5 inch display (1280 x 720
resolution), a 5.0 megapixel camera, a front-facing 1.3 megapixel video
cam, aGPS, WiFi, HSPA+, Bluetooth 4.0, two options in onboard storage
(8GB or 16GB), and a 2,070 mAh battery. Sadly, there's no microSD card
support, so you're stuck with the built-in storage. Muscle is provided
by a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400. It runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean,
with a promised update to 4.4 KitKat early next year.
The best part? The Motorola Moto G can be bought with no contract
and no SIM lock, priced at just $179 and $199 for the 8GB and 16GB
models, respectively. It will start rolling out onto various markets
this week, with US availability coming in January.
