ASUS has announced the latest version of their unique Padfone
phone/tablet combo. Called the ASUS Padfone Infinity, it retains the
same novel "two devices, one processor" system as the previous
iterations, but reinforces it with current high-end specs.
Just as before, it's made up of two devices: a smartphone and an
optional tablet dock with a slot in the back for holding the smartphone
that's going to power it. The new iteration also gets a microSD card
slot (which wasn't present in the last model), as well as a secondary
mic for noise canceling (so calls will, hopefully, sound better this
time around).
Details of the ASUS Padfone Infinity include a 5-inch Super IPS panel
(1920 x 1080 resolution), a 13.0 megapixel camera in the rear, a 2.0
megapixel front-facing video cam, aGPS, LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC,
two storage options (16GB, 32GB), and a 2,400 mAh battery. Muscle is
provided by a 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800, paired with 2GB of LPDDR3
RAM.
It runs Android 4.2.2, with a few UI enhancements across all the
built-in apps. Notable features include SonicMaster audio technology,
Pixelmaster (a camera feature that combines multiple pixels to form a
smaller but sharper and cleaner image), and a 35 fps turbo burst mode
for the camera.
The new ASUS Padfone Infinity will still work with the last
generation's tablet dock, so if you have that, you can skip picking up
the new one. Price is $640 off-contract, with the dock costing another
$240. It comes in black and white colors.
