iPhone 5S
Noticed how so few people who buy a new Android phone settle for
anything with less than a 4.5-inch screen anymore? Well, Apple
obviously didn't pay attention to that because the new iPhone 5S retains
its predecessor's 4-inch Retina display with a 640 x 1136 resolution
(yep, not even 720p). Phone dimensions are 4.87 x 2.31 x 0.3 inches,
with a weight of 3.95 ounces.
While that probably dampened a few of our hopes and dreams, the new
A7 chip doesn't. Not only does it make the 5S the very first 64-bit
phone in existence, it also receives support for the latest graphics
standards and motion processing without affecting even the slightest
reduction in battery life. It's pretty impressive.
Details of the iPhone 5S include an all-new 8.0 megapixel iSight
camera with TrueTone flash, a 1.2 megapixel front-facing video cam,
aGPS, WiFi, LTE, Bluetooth 4.0, three storage options (16GB, 32GB,
64GB), and an unspecified battery (rated at 10 hours of talk time). It
runs the all-new iOS 7, which boasts new features like TouchID (which
uses a built-in fingerprint reader), Control Center, improved
Multitasking, AirDrop and more.
The iPhone 5S hits stores September 20, with prices staring at
$199.99 on contract with any of the wireless providers carrying it.
iPhone 5C
The cheaper iPhone gets most of the same features as its flagship
brother, but settles for a less premium plastic shell and a
less-powerful A6 system-on-a-chip. It gets the same display, camera,
and wireless connectivity, but skimps a tad on storage options (no
64GB). It comes in five colors -- white, blue, red, green and yellow.
