Want a smartphone with a big screen but can't quite afford the higher
prices of the current offerings from the big manufacturers? Not a
problem if you're willing to patronize lesser-known names. One of the
most interesting we've seen is the BLU Studio 5.5, a smartphone that
goes generous with screen size and skimps on most else.
Sporting a slim profile of 9.5mm and a reasonably attractive body ,
it's not all that shabby in the design department either. With bright
color options and dual SIM bays to top things off (hot fuschia phablet,
anyone?), it's the perfect handset for users hankering for a backup
phone with Galaxy Note-sized displays.
Details of the BLU Studio 5.5 include a 5.5-inch TFT LCD display (854
x 480 resolution), a 5.0 megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash,
a front-facing VGA video cam, aGPS, Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi, HSPA+, 4GB
internal storage, microSD card expansion, and a 2,250 mAh battery
module. Muscle is provided by a 1.2GHz MediaTek quad-core processor,
paired with 1GB of RAM.
It runs a stock version of Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, with support for
BLU Products' over-the-air wireless updates. The BLU Studio 5.5 will be
available in 30 countries including the US (via Amazon and Best Buy),
priced at a very affordable $179 with no contract.
