Nokia has announced a new large-screen budget smartphone. Called the
Nokia Lumia 1320, the handset combines a mega-sized 720p display with
pricing that makes it competitive with many smaller affordably-priced
phones in the market.
Unlike most phone-tablet hybrids, the 6-inch behemoth is priced at a
very attractive $339 before taxes and subsidies, which should give the
handset a big push in emerging markets. Sure, the specs feel a little
underwhelming compared with the current hardware coming out in the
market, but this definitely positions this Windows Phone device as a
potentially successful one for the less-than-affluent crowds it's aiming
for.
Details of the Nokia Lumia 1320 include a 6-inch IPS LCD (1280 x720
resolution) with super-sensitive touch panel for glove and long nail
use, a 5.0 megapixel camera module with LED flash, a VGA front-facing
camera, 8 GB of internal storage, microSD card support, aGPS, LTE, HSPA,
Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11n, and a 3,400 mAh battery. Muscle is
provided by a 1.7GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400, paired with 1GB
of RAM.
Phone dimensions are 164.25 x 85.9 x 9.79 mm, with a weight of 220g.
It runs Windows Phone 8, with all the latest updates, including the
just-introduced Nokia camera app. Four colors, namely orange, yellow,
black, and white, will be available.
The Nokia Lumia 1320 will launch in China and Vietnam in early 2014 before making its way to the rest of Asia and Europe.
